SHARROD Wellingham's forgettable season is all but over after West Coast confirmed the midfielder could miss four to six weeks with a knee injury.

Wellingham tore the lateral meniscus in his right knee while playing for East Perth in the WAFL on Saturday. He was helped from the ground during the third term of the Royals 21-point win over West Perth and did not return.

The premiership player with Collingwood has played just 13 matches in his second season at West Coast, following just 10 games in 2013.

He has been dropped from the senior side three times this year but Eagles coach Adam Simpson said last Thursday that he had not given up on the former Magpie, intimating the 26-year-old was close to a senior return after gathering 26 disposals in his previous WAFL appearance on July 12.

The Eagles are likely to make a decision on Tuesday as to whether Wellingham requires surgery, which would definitively end his season.

Meanwhile, Luke Shuey has escaped a serious ankle injury but is still in doubt to face Adelaide on Saturday at Adelaide Oval. Shuey was carried from the ground after collapsing on his left ankle during the third term of the Eagles loss to Richmond last Friday night.

He returned to the action in the last quarter but was clearly inhibited. Shuey had his ankle heavily iced post-match and was on crutches on Saturday morning however he is still a chance to play if he can pass a fitness test later this week.

Ash Smith also suffered a thigh injury in the loss to Richmond and will have to pass a fitness test to travel to Adelaide to face the Crows.
