COLLINGWOOD is satisfied Paul Seedsman's hip is in good shape after he underwent exploratory surgery on Friday because he was experiencing minor soreness in the joint.

The club said the minor procedure was a precautionary measure to ensure the 23-year-old defender's soreness was not due to any structural issue.

Seedsman had surgery to fix a hip problem 12 months ago and returned to senior football in round 11 so the Magpies, keen to ensure he remains injury-free in what shapes as an important season for the running defender, decided Friday's procedure would be a useful check up on his progress.

They don't expect the procedure to interrupt the pre-season program the club had planned for Seedsman.

Seedsman has played 37 games for the Magpies since being drafted with pick No.76 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft but with his pace and evasive skills, he looks a ready-made replacement for Heritier Lumumba in 2015.

The Magpies head off to a training camp in Queenstown, New Zealand at the end of January with their first NAB Cup game against Hawthorn on February 26.
