HAWTHORN champion Sam Mitchell could be Nat Fyfe's biggest Brownlow Medal threat.

According to AFL.com.au's Brownlow Medal predictor, the star Hawk could have already polled 20 votes this season, just 10 votes behind runaway leader Fyfe.

The 32-year-old, who is averaging a little over 30 disposals per game, could catch the umpires' attention and snatch the prestigious award from the dominant Docker.

Interestingly, Mitchell gathered more than 30 possessions for six consecutive weeks between rounds five and 10, just missing out on equalling his personal best of seven.

Now in his 14th season in the AFL system, the 279-gamer also has a strong Brownlow Medal pedigree, polling more than 20 votes on three occasions in the past eight seasons.

Mitchell recorded a personal best 30 votes in 2011 behind winner Dane Swan, but was ineligible due to suspension.

The following year, Mitchell finished equal second alongside Trent Cotchin on 26 votes, just four votes shy of winner Jobe Watson.

Meanwhile, Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield (16 votes) is making a late surge to take home 'Charlie' on the back of two best-on-ground performances in rounds 19 and 20.

Docker David Mundy (16 votes) is also making a charge with nine Brownlow votes in the past five games, taking advantage of Fyfe's two-week absence with a groin injury.

St Kilda ball-winner David Armitage (17 votes) remains a smokey despite his side languishing in the bottom eight of the ladder.

The 27-year-old has elevated his game to a new level this season and is averaging close to 29 disposals per game, polling two votes in the predictor against North Melbourne last week.
