STAND-IN skipper Michael Rischitelli says Gold Coast has learnt from its past indiscretions and he is confident the players will be off-season cleanskins.

Ahead of their final match against the Sydney Swans on Saturday night, Rischitelli said the Suns' leadership group reinforced the off-field standards expected from teammates once the season finished.

Deaparted Sun Karmichael Hunt admitted earlier this year to using cocaine, and it was also reported he implicated several Gold Coast players for using illicit drugs on an end-of-season trip last year.

Rischitelli said after a year that also included several players being suspended for breaking team alcohol rules, he was confident they had learned their lesson.

"Every year every club goes through this point in time where the season finishes and things do happen, but this is another opportunity for our blokes to really buy in and understand the bigger picture," Rischitelli said.

"Are we worried? No. Can it happen? Yes. But I think with the group we've got and what we've learnt along the way, we should be right.

"We went through a few little things today on what the expectations are.

"We've told them what's expected and I'm sure they'll be buying in."

Rischitelli has been a driving force behind changing the off-field attitude of his younger teammates.

The 29-year-old signed a contract extension last week and said despite being a difficult season, he could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

"It's probably the year we needed to have," he said.

"I really think next year is going to be the one where everyone is going to be ready.

"We've pushed hard with our values and what we want to strive for. We've definitely learnt a lot.

"We talk about setting the foundations right and I think with what's happened through the year … we've really set something that's going to last a long time."
