BEING overlooked for the Grand Final will have no bearing on Scott Selwood's thinking as he decides whether to stay at West Coast or join elder brother Joel at Geelong, his manager says.

Selwood is a restricted free agent and has been strongly linked with Geelong for much of this season.

Selwood's manager, Tom Petroro, told SEN on Tuesday that his client would likely contact him later this week "with a bit more of an idea of what he wants to do".

"Scott has had a really difficult year with injuries. A procedure that they performed early in the pre-season didn't probably relieve him of the pain that he was going through, so he was always up against it to get back," Petroro said

"His non-selection in the Grand Final will have no bearing on his decision."

Selwood has been the Eagles' vice-captain since 2014 and won the club's 2012 best and fairest award.

But a persistent ankle injury has troubled him for the past two seasons and he fell out of favour late in the 2015 home and away season, when he was dropped to the WAFL for two weeks.

Selwood was recalled for the Eagles' qualifying final win over Hawthorn, but was dropped for the preliminary final against North Melbourne when Matt Priddis and Chris Masten returned from injury.

After the Eagles defeated North by 25 points to set up a Grand Final clash against Hawthorn, Selwood was again overlooked at selection and was named as an emergency.

Petroro also manages Carlton key-position player Lachie Henderson, who requested a trade three rounds before the end of the home and away season.

As has been widely expected, Petroro confirmed Geelong was Henderson's preferred destination.
