THE FUTURE of emerging Geelong forward Shane Kersten remains in limbo, with Fremantle one of several clubs interested in the uncontracted 23-year-old.

The West Australian looked to have cemented his place in the Cats' line-up when he played 13 games in the first 14 rounds, but he played just four more games for the season and did not play finals.

He remains unsigned and the Dockers remain interested, however their immediate focus during the trade period is understood to be Greater Western Sydney forward Cam McCarthy and Hawthorn speedster Bradley Hill.

Kersten kicked 20 goals in the first 14 rounds and looked to have formed a good combination alongside Tom Hawkins, but his omission from the seniors beyond round 22 was not a positive sign.

He would give the Dockers a number of young forwards to work with, given Matt Taberner's progress and the likely addition of McCarthy after club champion Matthew Pavlich retired and with Chris Mayne expected to depart as a free agent.

The Cats have several players whose futures are in doubt, with Mitch Clark out of contract and ruckman forward Nathan Vardy attracting interest from GWS and Port Adelaide.

Daniel Menzel's contract negotiations have been ongoing, with both parties keen for him to re-sign given Menzel's injury history and his excellent form in 2016, when he kicked 33 goals.

Key defender Tom Lonergan remains unsigned while many expect veteran Corey Enright to retire after making the All Australian team for the sixth time in 2016. He is yet to make his intentions clear.

Decorated premiership player Jimmy Bartel is also yet to announce whether he will continue next season after triggering a clause in his contract to play on.
