PORT Adelaide chairman David Koch will not tolerate another year without his club featuring in the finals and warns changes will be be made if the Power miss the eight.

"It (not making the finals) is just fail, full stop," Koch told Channel Nine on Thursday night.

"I hate giving excuses.

"I'll just say 'we've failed, we've learnt, we've got to do better, and we'll continue to learn'.

Asked if he'll endure a third straight year of failure without making changes, Koch simply declared: "No. We won't.

"We understand the expectations of our members and supporters, and my expectation is that we play finals each and every year, and high finals.

"We're not going to tolerate a third year (of failure) at all. We don't think we'll need to."

On his debut as senior coach in 2013, Ken Hinkley took Port Adelaide to its first finals appearance since 2007, and was voted the best coach in the league by his peers.

After making a preliminary final in 2014, the Power failed to make the final eight in 2015 and 2016.

This year, the Power will be part of the first AFL match in China, when they take on Gold Coast in round eight.
