INJURED Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott is confident he will be available for selection in the Magpies' crunch game against Sydney at the SCG on Friday night.

Elliott, 24, hurt his left ankle at training after the club's first JLT Community Series match and has not played a game since.

The Pies have lost their opening two games of the season after putting in competitive efforts against the Western Bulldogs and Richmond.

The high-flier said at the club he would join the main group at Monday's training session and if he pulled up well, would be available to be picked in Nathan Buckley's team.

"It will all depend on today. We'll train at 2.30 and if I get through, then I'll probably put my hand up (to play)," Elliott said.

After pulling up sore at first, Elliott's ankle has been in better condition recently.

"I have good days and bad days, but at the moment it's pulling up fine after sessions," he said.

"If I can put today together, then get out on the track and get through a full session, pulls up fine tomorrow, then train again Wednesday, it should be OK," he said.

Elliott is not sure if he would have to return through the VFL. The reserves play North Ballarat in a practice match at the Holden Centre on Saturday.

After missing all of 2016 with a back injury, watching on as the side endured a rocky start has been tough.

"We could've been two and zip if we put those games together. It is frustrating, but it's frustrating not playing," he said.

The club's leading goalkicker in 2015 said conditioning was not an issue.

"Initially, when I started running again, it was tough to get going, but now that I've put about three running sessions together, I feel pretty good, so I'm pretty confident," he said.

Elliott booted at least 30 goals in three straight seasons before injury struck last year.
