PORT Adelaide has revived former Melbourne skipper Jack Trengove's career by handing the midfielder a one-year deal.

The South Australian was picked up as a delisted free agent.

Trengove, 26, will reunite with ex-Demon Jack Watts, while Tom Rockliff, Steven Motlop and Trent McKenzie have also joined the Power.

Lindsay Thomas, who has left North Melbourne under mutual agreement, is expected to join Port as a rookie.

List manager Jason Cripps told portadelaidefc.com.au that Trengove's leadership was an integral reason for the club picking him up.

"The football world knows that Jack has had some much-publicised injury setbacks over the last couple of years but we are confident that he still has plenty of upside and will contribute positively to our playing group both on and off the field," Cripps said.

"We are all well aware of the skill level and pure football ability that Jack possesses, but most importantly he also brings great character, integrity and leadership to our club which will be invaluable to our entire playing group."

Trengove will join the group when the whole list returns to training on Monday, November 27.

"I am so appreciative of Port Adelaide providing me with another chance to play the game I love," said Trengove.

"I still feel as though I have plenty to offer with my experience and leadership and I can't wait to start this new phase in my career.

"And to come home and be back around family and friends will make the transition so much easier."

Trengove was drafted with pick No.2 in 2009 and made co-captain of the Demons, along with Jack Grimes, in 2012.

A serious navicular bone injury in his left foot suffered in 2014 proved tough to overcome and he has lined up in just seven matches over the past four seasons, including two in 2017.

Melbourne delisted him in mid-September and it looked like Trengove's career was over until the Power came calling.

His signing ensures there will still be a Trengove on the Power list in 2018 after free agent Jackson Trengove left to join the Western Bulldogs. Jackson wasted no time in welcoming Jack to his old team, taking to Facebook shortly after the move was announced.
