BRIGHT North Melbourne prospect Bailey Scott will undergo surgery on Tuesday night to repair a fractured bone in his left foot and faces an indefinite period on the sidelines.

The 18-year-old, who was the season's first NAB AFL Rising Star nominee, sustained the injury in a tackle in the second quarter of the VFL on Sunday.

"Bailey is a valuable addition to our group and we will be taking a precautionary approach to his recovery," North football boss Cameron Joyce said.

"He's an important part of the future of the club and has great potential.

"At this stage we won't be putting a timeframe on his return (and) rather will be taking a long-term approach to his recovery."
