WEST Coast winger Lewis Jetta has a minor calf injury, but the Eagles expect him to return at full speed after the Christmas break.

The 27-year-old left the track only minutes into the team's training session on Monday.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said scans revealed Jetta had a low-grade calf strain.

"It’s just a tweak of the calf," Simpson told reporters on Wednesday.

"We will put him on ice now and after Christmas we should have him back pretty quick.

"We do push the players to the line with their endurance and running, so you do lose a couple here and there.

"That probably suggests you’re getting close to the line.

"He was the guy that didn’t get across the line this year, but I’m not too worried."

Simpson also said star ruckman Nic Naitanui was still on track to make his long-awaited return to football for the start of next season.

The athletic big man missed all of this year recovering from a knee reconstruction.

Naitanui had an arthroscope in October to trim cartilage that had been causing him some discomfort at training.

"Unless something happens we’re right on track for that. That’s our goal, isn’t it, round one? Not to prove that he is fit right now," Simpson said.

"He’s in full training, he just gets managed like a lot of our players.

"It would be pretty silly to put him in full training and full contact two days before we break up for Christmas.

"He had a bit of a clean-up at the end of the season and there’s been no hiccups.

"It’s all been part of the plan to get him into training.

"We’ve got, I’d say 20 players, who come in and out of drills and Nic is just one of those guys.

"We are selective with his drills and we want to get him to Christmas, give him a good break and then into January, February.

"It’s December, so I’m not sure we want to get everyone into full contact right now."
