IN-FORM and out of contract, Gold Coast forward-turned-midfielder Aaron Hall hopes to finish the season strongly to secure his future with the Suns.

With the undermanned Suns missing midfield stars Gary Ablett, David Swallow, Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia, Hall has relished a move from attack to midfield over the past month.

In his past four outings, Hall has averaged 26 possessions (including 10 contested), taking advantage of his licence to take the game on with his pace and natural attacking flair.

His performance in the 83-point loss to Richmond wasn't the best of his career, but it was his most prolific, amassing career-best tallies of possessions (29), contested possessions (14) and clearances (seven).

Hall still managed to hit the scoreboard, taking a bounce and nailing a goal from beyond the arc in the first term, and trying to repeat the effort with three bounces and a shot from further out, only to register a behind.

All that after taking self-imposed leave mid-season to sort out some personal issues.

It's a good time for the 24-year-old to be in form, given he is out of contract at season's end.

"I just want to focus on playing good footy and hopefully let the contract take care of itself," Hall told AFL.com.au post-match.

"My manager is in talks with the club, and hopefully a deal will get done soon."

Hall made his AFL debut in 2012 and has played 58 games and kicked 54 goals.

Until a month ago, he had been a permanent small forward and hadn't received any midfield time.

Suns coach Rodney Eade praised Hall for a terrific first half against the Tigers, but added that he had fallen into bad habits in a disappointing second half. Hall wasn't alone, given the Suns were outscored 14 goals to four after half-time.

Hall knows he still has much to learn, but is excited about adding more skills to his repertoire.

"Our four best midfielders have gone down for the majority of the season, but I suppose a positive out of that is that it's given other players an opportunity they mightn't normally get," he said.

"So when those guys come back, hopefully we'll be a better club for that experience some of us have gained.

"I'm enjoying it in the midfield, but I've got a lot to learn and work on. I've got some great guys like 'Gaz' (Ablett) who are helping me, so hopefully I'll get there."

Just what has Ablett impressed upon him?

"Just to be confident and back my strengths," Hall said.

"He's given me a few more tips about stoppages and running patterns and stuff … he's been great for us all season. He wants us to progress as a team and as individuals."

Hall said he wants to become a more reliable player.

"I'm trying to improve my consistency, which has been a knock on my game," he said.

"I'm trying to get my preparation up to a real professional standard. I regard myself as a professional player but I'm starting to go above and beyond, and I feel I'm taking it into games."
