IT'S GRAND Final week. You can tell as much because spring is in the air and Tom Rockliff's gorging on Fantasy Points like there's no tomorrow. Even if he's running out of teammates to play alongside.

There's a great comfort in seeing our favourite Fantasy Pig notching up scores like 159, as he did in Launceston last week, this late into the season.

And there's great irony that in Fantasy Grand Final week, the best three-man combination you can have in your team is Rockliff, Stefan Martin and Mitch Robinson from the League-bottom Lions.

And the worst? Nat Fyfe, David Mundy and Aaron Sandilands from the League-leading Dockers, as Ross Lyon gets set to leave his best and brightest in Perth, resting up for a qualifying final.

Fantasy's top three scorers since round 17 are indeed those above-mentioned Lions, and wise coaches heading into showdowns this week should ensure they have each of them on the field.

Brave trading will be required on Friday evening once the teams are confirmed, as coaches wrestle with the inevitable outbreaks of 'general soreness' that come with round 23.

While it would take a gutsy coach not to hand Rockliff the captaincy, it will most likely be the 'one-week stars' who can deliver you Fantasy premiership. Like Mitch Morton, Shane Ellen and Paul Barnard in Grand Finals past, it's the players out of left field who could decide the ultimate contest, not the proven performers.

Players like Jeremy Cameron (FWD, $366,000), for example, who torched the Blues for seven second-half goals and 143 points last week, and faces a similarly despondent Melbourne this week at its Etihad Stadium graveyard.

Or Jack Gunston (FWD, $482,000), who faced this week's opponent Carlton just five weeks ago and kicked six goals that night on his way to 161 points.

Or even (sharp intake of breath) Kurt Tippett (FWD/RUC, $481,000), who has been in fantastic form in the past fortnight with scores of 135 and 117.

Whatever your strategy, take a moment this week to contemplate the pageantry of the Grand Final parade (replete with a public holiday in Victoria), the fan-friendly training sessions, and the undignified rush for expensive tickets.

Then forget about all that and trade like there's no tomorrow in one final pursuit of ultimate Fantasy glory. Good luck.
