HAWTHORN star Sam Mitchell celebrated his 300th game with a win on Sunday against Richmond at the MCG.

AFL.com.au's photographer Michael Willson was on hand in the build-up to the game, during the game and post-match to capture all the best moments, as one of Hawthorn's favourite sons reached his triple century.

It's business as usual as the week begins, despite a very significant milestone looming for Sam Mitchell - game 300.

The Hawks are in a good place having just defeated the Swans in an epic encounter. There are smiles all round as preparations begin for the clash against the Tigers at the MCG on Sunday.

Media is all part of the job. A large contingent gather at Waverley as Mitchell speaks about his journey to becoming just the seventh Hawk to play 300 matches

Mitchell explains that changing the culture of the football club is one of his greatest achievements.

Away from the field Mitchell is the ultimate family man. He and wife Lyndall have their hands full with son Smith and twin girls Emmerson and Scarlett.

Daughter Scarlett loves the camera!

Emmy however preferred to play photographer's assistant.

Smith practices his soccer skills, ironically it was his father's soccer skills that helped get the Hawks over the line against the Swans just a few days ago.

The teamwork doesn't end on the field as Lyndall and Sam prepare some snacks for Scarlett and Emmy.

Silence is golden. With the children in bed it's time to put the feet up and unwind in front of the TV.

The final training session of the week begins. Mitchell cuts a solitary figure in the middle of Waverley practicing his ball skills.

Teammates listen intently as Mitchell talks tactics at the end of training.

A huge turnout of Hawks fans gathered to wish the milestone man all the best.

Game day. Number 300.

It's team first though. Defeating the Tigers is the sole focus as the players warm up in the rooms.

A lazy 38 possessions in game 300.

The siren sounds and the Hawks have done right by their man, easily accounting for the Tigers by 70 points.

Mitchell is chaired from the field by Jordan Lewis and Luke Hodge. A guard of honour from both teams a fitting tribute.

Smiles all round as a beaming Mitchell clan gather on the boundary.

They're a happy team at Hawthorn.

Game 300 done and dusted. Sam Mitchell leaves the MCG hand-in-hand with his biggest fans.
