2017 Hall of Fame Induction To Be Held In Adelaide

The Australian Football League (AFL) today announced Adelaide would host the 2017 Australian Football Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on June 20.

The Hall of Fame Induction will be held outside of Melbourne for just the second time since it was established in 1996, after it was held in Canberra in 2013 when the ACT celebrated 100 years of the game in the Territory.

AFL Chief Executive Gillon McLachlan said it was fantastic for the event to be in Adelaide, which was named by Lonely Planet as one of 2017’s top five regions to visit and hosted the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

“The June 20 event will be held at the iconic Adelaide Oval, which also hosted the 2014 AFL Season Launch, and reinforces the venue as one of the nation’s top football destinations,” Mr McLachlan said.

“Induction into the Hall of Fame is recognised across the country as the ultimate acknowledgement that you have been deemed to be one of the elite in our game’s history.

“Since the Hall of Fame was established more than two decades ago, each induction has been an emotional highlight for every player/ coach/ administrator/ umpire or media representative who has had the privilege to be recognised by our game.

“As Australia’s only indigenous sport, with a national competition comprising games played in every state and territory, it is only proper that our major events should be spread across the country, and we are delighted that Adelaide will host the Hall of Fame this year, alongside its previous successful stagings of national drafts, the AFL season launch and numerous finals matches.”

The Australian Football Hall of Fame was established in 1996 and serves to recognise players, coaches, umpires, administrators, and media representatives who have made an outstanding contribution to Australian football.
