Because I'm Eddie

THE CROWS are paying Eddie Betts a pretty penny, have acquired him as a free agent from Carlton at the end of 2013. But they're getting enough bang for their buck, and the hordes filling Adelaide Oval week after week deserve goals like this beauty against North Melbourne last Saturday night. Kangaroo Aaron Mullett clearly sensed the danger as he made a desperate lunge to prevent Eddie's remarkable running shot from 40 metres out on the boundary line - a kick that certainly had no right to sail through the big sticks.

Scorching the Pies in '06

Of course, Eddie's got years of form from the tight angle around goal. He grabbed the AFL's Goal of the Year award for this stunning effort in round 21, 2006 against the Blues' most hated rivals. In a fiery clash with Collingwood, Betts showed impressive agility to pick off Tarkyn Lockyer's handball and, hemmed in on the MCG boundary-line, slot a brilliant goal with two Magpies lunging at him. Note Brendan Fevola's hard work in standing still and waving an arm in Eddie's direction in the hope of receiving the ball.
